“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!” Inuyasha shouted, rubbing his newly formed bump on the head. He swiftly hit Miroku right back with his fist.

Sure, he thought he knew what this was about, Kikyo….but usually Miroku didn’t take action himself when Inuyasha ran after her.

He continued to glare at the monk. “explanation!”

Miroku rubbed his arm, wincing slightly but all-together pretty okay from InuYasha’s hit. He knew the man could have hit harder, and though he was sure a bruise was budding, the monk was thankful that he held back from breaking it altogether. After that moment, he threw his good arm around InuYasha’s neck, whisking him around to face the entrance of the cave and bowed both their heads low. In a hushed tone, he began his explanation.

“You do realize what today is, or do you not, InuYasha?” Of course he didn’t. The silent and barbaric look that greeted Miroku was the answer to that.

With a twist of his lip, he cast back another glance at Kagome, to make sure she wasn’t really listening. Then, covering his mouth partly for extra protection against gossiping winds, he relayed, “It’s Kagome’s birthday.”

If the school girl had overheard him tell, he was sure at least either him or InuYasha would get an earful. She carried a lot of pride in her step, and explaining something that the half-breed should have known would undoubtedly send her over the edge and into the greatest demon any of them had ever faced — perhaps, rivaling even that of Naraku.

“Now, the reason I hit you should be obvious.” he shrugged away, palms up, staring with guilt-inducing eyes. “Usually I stray away from the arguments you and Lady Kagome carry. Today, however, after not listening to her, running away when she might have required protection, and running to Lady Kikyo, no less,” he cocked his head with a sharp frown. “All on the poor girls birthday is a bit… much. Do you see my point?”

Inuyasha’s face fell.

He had been treating like he usually did all day….was there anything wrong with the way he treated her in the first place? He tried to mull it over. Ah well, the point was weren’t you supposed to be treated extra special on ones birthday? He never got such treatment…

“Hmph.” he merely replied, walking away. He had to try to find something for Kagome now…as an apology and present. He hopped off into the trees, looking everywhere.

The wind blew threw the grass, separating the hugging green plants. The wind brushed the tree’s hair, removing the unliving leaves and making room for the new. The wind played with the flowers, blowing their fragrance around, helping nature with its hard work. The wind also blew against her, She was like one of those dead leaves that should have been blown away, but she’s refused to let go.. And she really never wanted to let go.

Another small brush of wind ran through he hair, tossing it was she looked up in the sky.

“How can a world be so beautiful… yet..” She turned from the sky, her eyes scanning around the area as she sat, peacefully against a tree. “ Yet.. So corrupted…?” She asked herself out loud. Closing her eyes for a moment. She could feel the life around her, the wild animals.. The smaller demons who didn’t want to approach her. She could feel the world thriving..

Kikyo could also feel another presence.. One that made her soul excited.. Inuyasha. She smiled lightly to herself, motioning for one of her spirit collectors to run through Inuyasha’s path.

The wind picked up again, fingering though her hair, pulling her sent, and sending it out to the man whom she’s given her entire heart to..

Inuyasha stopped in his tracks, he could smell that fragrance of the one person he loved so much…the one he thought of all the time. As if to conform his smell, a spirit collector glided in front of him. Without a second thought he followed it, how could he not? The woman he loved was nearby…

He knew he felt something for Kagome too…but it wasn’t as strong….besides, he could get something for her birthday later.

He stopped when he spotted the priestess. “Kikyo…”
